Return to the River 2024

A Celebration of Community and the Grand River

This past August, Grand Rapids’ riverfront transformed into a lively hub of activity during the Return to the River Festival. The event celebrated not just the vibrant arts and music scene but also the Grand River itself—a vital part of our city's identity.

From the electrifying performances by local bands and DJs to the mesmerizing art installations that dotted the riverfront, every corner was buzzing with excitement. Festival-goers enjoyed a wide array of activities, including kayaking, educational walking tours, and shopping at the artisan market. The diverse food trucks added to the festive atmosphere, offering delicious local flavors.

But the festival was more than just fun and entertainment. It was a reminder of the Grand River's enduring importance to Grand Rapids. As the city's lifeblood, the river has shaped our community, fostering connections and serving as a natural gathering place for generations. This event not only celebrated our rich history but also looked forward to the future, showcasing the riverfront as a vibrant space for everyone to enjoy.

If you missed it this year, check out our video recap and get ready for next year's festivities, where we’ll once again come together to honor the Grand River and the vibrant community it nurtures!
